Hind Ennaira is a Moroccan singer and Gnawa musician. Gnawa is a spiritual and musical tradition descended from the sub-Saharan and practiced mainly in Morocco and Algeria. These intriguing sounds combine music, dance and religious rituals and pursue a kind of heavenly transcendence. Gnawa culture is still ruled by men, but Ennaira fought her way to the top of the firmament. Armed with the guembri, a bass lute, she shattered all conventions and emerged as an authentic rising talent. The ancient Gnawa traditions in a new form, but with equal dedication.
